Flamingle Bells Ugly Christmas Sweater: Christmas at the Beach, and Correct About It

Half the planet spends Christmas in the heat and almost none of the knitwear admits it. Flamingle Bells is a pink flamingo in a Santa hat, standing on one leg in warm shallow water between two palms, with a pale turquoise sky behind him and small red baubles hanging where the snow would normally be. He is not putting a coat on. He has never needed one and he is not starting now.

A flamingo, a Santa hat, and a hemisphere that gets ignored

Ugly Christmas sweaters were invented in cold countries and the whole visual language followed: snow, pines, log fires. For anyone spending the twenty-fifth on a beach, the entire category has been quietly addressed to somebody else. This design is the range pointing at the other half of the map and saying yes, you too.

The palette is the giveaway. Instead of red and green on cream, it runs pink, coral and turquoise, with the fair isle bands rendered in beach colours and a row of small flamingos along the hem. The snowflake yoke stays, because the joke only works if the garment is still unmistakably a Christmas sweater.

Printed edge to edge, so the water and the palms carry over the shoulders and down the sleeves. Like the rest of the cast, the flamingo was drawn as stitches before it was printed on anything.

The Ugly Rating: 7 out of 10

Every design in our line gets an official Ugly Rating from our Chief Festivity Officer, a capybara whose calm is legendary and whose standards are not negotiable. On our scale, high numbers mean gloriously, spectacularly ugly, the kind of sweater that wins contests and frightens relatives. Low numbers mean the design leans cozy and charming rather than loud.

The CFO has awarded Flamingle Bells a 7 out of 10, with the official citation: “the only correct Christmas sweater in the southern hemisphere.” A 7 from the duck, who is Australian about this and said so. His note pointed out that a sweatshirt is still the right weight for a beach evening once the sun drops, which is the part people forget when they laugh at the idea. A 7 means it reads as a joke at first and a sensible choice by nine o’clock.

What Flamingle Bells comes as

Who the flamingo is for

Buy it for anyone doing Christmas in Australia, New Zealand, South Africa or the southern half of anywhere. Buy it for the friend who spends December somewhere warm and posts about it. Buy it for the person whose favourite colour has never once appeared on a Christmas jumper.

It is also the best summer-holiday option in the range, because a flamingo in a Santa hat is funny in February in a way that a reindeer is not.

FAQ

When can I buy the Flamingle Bells sweater?

Now. Every form is live in the shop, and the VIP list hears about new designs first.

What is the deadline for Christmas delivery on the knits?

There is no knitted Flamingle Bells. Every Flamingle Bells form is printed to order in the US in three to seven days, then ships standard. It stays orderable until December 11 for Christmas delivery. Our knitted range is the traditional fair-isle line, and that is the range with the November 15 cutoff.

Is there a pet version?

Not yet. Knitted dog versions exist only in the traditional fair-isle range. Flamingle Bells comes as the sweatshirt, the tees and the couples sets.

Do bigger sizes cost more?

No. One price per product, every size, always. Size surcharges are a scam wearing a size label, and we refuse to run one.

The Festive Folks’ Verdict

Flamingle Bells is the Christmas sweater for the hemisphere the category forgot. It is pink, it is warm-weather, it is still unmistakably a Christmas knit, and it is the one that gets bought twice once somebody’s cousin sees the photo.
