Count Catula ugly sweater article cover: the Count Catula character illustration, house title strip

Count Catula Vampire Cat Halloween Shirt: Immortal, and Using It to Lie Down

Four hundred years, no pulse, and a full calendar of nothing. Count Catula is one very round vampire cat in dark glasses, laid out on a wooden lounger with a red drink in reach, under a moon the size of a dinner plate with bats crossing it. Every vampire story sells you the drama. This one skips to the part where an immortal creature works out that eternity is mostly an opportunity to lie down, and takes it.

A vampire, an eternity, and a very comfortable lounger

Vampires are supposed to be the frightening part of the night. Count Catula read the job description, kept the fangs and the cape energy, and delegated the rest. The design is one heavy cat on a lounger in a purple field, moon behind him, bats above him, a drink at his elbow that nobody remembers pouring.

The details do the work. The sunglasses are worn at night, indoors, by a creature with no light sensitivity to speak of. The bats are busy. He is not. The snowflake yoke at the shoulders and the row of small bats along the hem keep it reading as a proper fair isle rather than a costume print, which is the whole point of the range.

It is printed edge to edge, so the moon carries over the shoulders and down the sleeves rather than stopping at a rectangle on the chest. Up close you can see the knit texture in the artwork itself, because the character was drawn as stitches before it was ever printed on anything.

The Ugly Rating: 8 out of 10

Every design in our line gets an official Ugly Rating from our Chief Festivity Officer, a capybara whose calm is legendary and whose standards are not negotiable. On our scale, high numbers mean gloriously, spectacularly ugly, the kind of sweater that wins contests and frightens relatives. Low numbers mean the design leans cozy and charming rather than loud.

The CFO has awarded Count Catula a 8 out of 10, with the official citation: “the most relaxed monster we have ever put on a garment.” The Ugly Rating comes from the duck, who reviewed it from beside the fire and said only that a monster this unbothered has understood something the rest of the cast has not. An 8 means it will get comments at the party and at least one person will ask where you got it before the first drink is finished.

What Count Catula comes as

Count Catula comes in six printed forms, every one made to order in the US, with one flat price per form in every size. There is no knitted Count Catula: our knitted range is the traditional fair-isle line. Order by October 17 for US delivery before Halloween; after that it keeps printing, because a deadpan ghost works all winter.

Who the vampire cat is for

Buy it for the friend whose Halloween plan is a bowl of candy and an early night. Buy it for the cat person whose cat has never once been startled by anything. Buy it for the person who likes the season but has run out of patience for costumes that need a mirror and forty minutes.

It sits alongside the rest of the Halloween line if you want the household matched, and it works right through winter afterwards, because a cat in sunglasses is not a date-limited joke.

FAQ

When can I buy the Count Catula sweater?

Now. Every form is live in the shop, and the VIP list hears about new designs first.

What is the deadline for Halloween delivery?

There is no knitted Count Catula. Every Count Catula form is printed to order in the US in three to seven days, then ships standard. Order by October 17 for US delivery before Halloween. It stays orderable after that, and December orders follow the December 11 Christmas cutoff. Our knitted range is the traditional fair-isle line, and that is the range with the November 15 cutoff.

Is there a pet version?

Not yet. Knitted dog versions exist only in the traditional fair-isle range. Count Catula comes as the sweatshirt, the tees and the couples sets.

Do bigger sizes cost more?

No. One price per product, every size, always. Size surcharges are a scam wearing a size label, and we refuse to run one.

The Festive Folks’ Verdict

Count Catula is the Halloween sweater for everyone who enjoys the season and has quietly opted out of the effort. It trades fog machines and fake blood for one immortal cat who worked out what eternity is for, and it keeps working long after the pumpkins go soft.
