Hang In There Bat Halloween Shirt: He Took the Poster Literally

Somebody gave him the poster. He read it as an instruction. Hang In There is one small bat in his own knitted sweater, upside down on a bare branch in front of an enormous moon, with a haunted house sitting in the middle distance and pumpkins glowing at the bottom of the frame. He has been up there since the first of October. As far as he can tell, the advice is working.

A bat, a branch, and advice taken at face value

The poster is one of the oldest jokes in an office, which is exactly why it works on a Halloween sweater. Everyone has been told to hang in there by somebody who could have helped instead. This bat took the same sentence, found a branch, and has been quietly outlasting the month ever since.

The design leans on one strong shape. A pale full moon fills the middle of the purple field, the bare branch cuts across the top, and the bat hangs dead centre in a green and orange knit of his own. The haunted house and the small pumpkins sit low so they read as scenery rather than clutter.

It is printed edge to edge, so the moon carries across the chest and the branch runs into both sleeves. The whole scene was drawn as stitches before printing, which is why it reads as a knitted picture rather than a photograph on a jumper.

The Ugly Rating: 7 out of 10

Every design in our line gets an official Ugly Rating from our Chief Festivity Officer, a capybara whose calm is legendary and whose standards are not negotiable. On our scale, high numbers mean gloriously, spectacularly ugly, the kind of sweater that wins contests and frightens relatives. Low numbers mean the design leans cozy and charming rather than loud.

The CFO has awarded Hang In There a 7 out of 10, with the official citation: “the only member of the cast who is technically still at work.” The duck gave it a 7 and noted that the bat is the only one in the range currently holding a position. A 7 means it earns a second look and a laugh from anyone who has ever been handed that particular piece of advice at a difficult moment.

What Hang In There comes as

Hang In There comes in six printed forms, every one made to order in the US, with one flat price per form in every size. There is no knitted Hang In There: our knitted range is the traditional fair-isle line. Order by October 17 for US delivery before Halloween; after that it keeps printing, because a deadpan ghost works all winter.

Who the bat is for

Buy it for the friend who is having a long year. Buy it for the colleague whose desk had that poster on it unironically. Buy it for the person who wants a Halloween sweater that is funny rather than frightening, and who would rather be quietly encouraged than jumped out at.

It sits happily beside the rest of the Halloween line, and the joke has nothing to do with October, so it carries on being useful in February when everybody needs it most.

FAQ

When can I buy the Hang In There sweater?

Now. Every form is live in the shop, and the VIP list hears about new designs first.

What is the deadline for Halloween delivery?

There is no knitted Hang In There. Every Hang In There form is printed to order in the US in three to seven days, then ships standard. Order by October 17 for US delivery before Halloween. It stays orderable after that, and December orders follow the December 11 Christmas cutoff. Our knitted range is the traditional fair-isle line, and that is the range with the November 15 cutoff.

Is there a pet version?

Not yet. Knitted dog versions exist only in the traditional fair-isle range. Hang In There comes as the sweatshirt, the tees and the couples sets.

Do bigger sizes cost more?

No. One price per product, every size, always. Size surcharges are a scam wearing a size label, and we refuse to run one.

The Festive Folks’ Verdict

Hang In There is the kindest thing in the Halloween line. It is a bat, a bad poster and a full moon, and it is the one you buy for somebody who needs telling that the month will end.
