The Fa La La La Llama character design, a deadpan llama in earmuffs and a bead garland

Fa La La La Llama Ugly Christmas Sweatshirt: Hour Five of Carol Duty

The carols reached the fourth fa-la-la and the llama opted out.

He is still standing there. The earmuffs are on, the garland is still around his neck, and he has stopped making any sound at all. This is hour five of carol duty and he has made his decision.

We printed him across a whole sweatshirt.

What is on the sweatshirt

Warm sand ground, brick-red and pine-green fair-isle bands, a wide cream snowflake band across the shoulders and a strand of red, green and gold bead garland hanging above the chest.

In the middle of it is the llama: cream, deadpan, red pom-pom earmuffs, a beaded garland worn as a necklace and his own small red blanket with reindeer on it. Two little pines sit at his feet in the snow.

Along the hem and down both sleeves runs a marching band of small cream llamas, all facing the same way, all quiet. Because this is an all-over print, none of it stops at a seam.

The Ugly Rating: 7 out of 10

Loud, warm and busy, with a large animal in the centre of it. The sand ground keeps it from tipping into pure noise, which is the only restrained thing about it.

The Chief Festivity Officer gave it a 7 and observed that the earmuffs are the point of the entire design, because they are the only part of the outfit doing something useful.

What the cast made of it

Cool CatCool Cat, Head of Morale

Identifies with the llama completely and has asked to be excused from the office carol session on the same grounds.

Sitting DuckSitting Duck, Head of Quality Control

Counted the beads on the garland. Counted them again. Sat down.

OwlOwl, Head of Knitwear

Confirmed the marching llama band holds an even repeat all the way around the hem, so nothing gets cut in half at the side seam.

BullBull, Head of Careful Handling

Suggested the garland was a hazard. Was reminded that it is printed. Withdrew the concern.

Every form Fa La La La Llama comes as

Three, all printed rather than knitted, and all of them orderable much later than the knit line.

The all-over-print sweatshirt, $79.99

The full design printed edge to edge before the garment is sewn, so the llama, the bands and the marching hem run across every seam and a 6XL carries exactly as much design as a Small. 2XS to 6XL, one flat price at every size, printed to order in three to seven business days.

The couples matching set, $144.99

Two of the same sweatshirt, $144.99 together against $159.98 apart. Two llamas, one carol session, no singing. 2XS to 5XL on both halves, and ordering two different sizes is the normal way to buy it.

Fa La La La Llama Couples Matching Set | Two Sweatshirts, One Design, 144.99 US dollars

The badge tee, $27.99

The llama pulled into a knitted-look crest and printed on a soft tee, XS to 5XL, in five colours: Pure White, Blue, Green, Mauve and Vintage White. One flat price at every size, and the cheapest way into the design.

Wearing a llama to a carol session

Keep everything else plain. Dark jeans, plain boots, no second pattern anywhere, because there is already a llama and a marching band of smaller llamas. The sand ground is warmer than a red sweatshirt and photographs better indoors.

Friends on a sofa mid carol session, two of them wearing the Fa La La La Llama Christmas sweatshirt

The fit is a relaxed unisex sweatshirt and runs true to size. Size up for a slouchier shape, which suits a busy print. Every size is the same price, on every form.

It also works on a group. Four people in the same design reads as a decision rather than a coincidence, which is why it turns up in office orders. The corporate page handles those.

When can you get it?

Everything in this design is printed, so it orders much later than the knits.

Order by December 11 in the USA for delivery before Christmas, or December 16 with express at checkout. Internationally, November 26 standard and December 14 express.

Printed to order in three to seven business days, so nothing sells out. The knitted designs close much earlier, on November 15. Every date is on the shipping and cut-off page.

FAQ

Why is it called Fa La La La Llama?

Because the carol reaches the fourth fa-la-la, the llama stops, and somebody had to put that on a sweatshirt.

What does all-over print mean?

The design is printed onto the fabric before the garment is sewn, so it covers the whole sweatshirt including the sleeves and across the seams. A 6XL shows as much design as a Small.

Is there a cheaper version?

Yes. The badge tee is $27.99 and carries the llama as a knitted-look crest on the chest.

Is it suitable for kids?

The sweatshirt and the tee are both adult sizing. For younger sizes the kids range is printed tees, and the line-up there is a shorter list.

Does the price change by size?

Never. $79.99 from 2XS to 6XL on the sweatshirt, $27.99 from XS to 5XL on the tee.

How late can I order it?

December 11 standard in the USA, December 16 with express. November 26 standard internationally, December 14 express.

The Festive Folks’ Verdict

Buy Fa La La La Llama if you have done your share of the singing and would like a garment that says so. It scores a 7, it prints edge to edge, and it starts at $27.99 in tee form.

Cool Cat has asked to be excused from the carol session. The request is under review.
