Matching couples ugly Christmas sweaters usually mean one thing: two cheap printed pullovers with the same cartoon on them, bought in a hurry, worn once. We took a different route. Every pattern in our knit collection now comes as a couples set, which is two real knitted crews from the same charts and the same yarns, one in your size and one in theirs, for $279 together instead of $298 apart.
These are not printed sweaters. Each one is knitted to order as real jacquard through our custom knit program, two colours per row, solid ribbing at every edge, about two weeks on the needles. The patterns are traditional for a reason: they look like the sweaters in the old family photos, because they are made the same way.
How the couples sets work
Pick a pattern, pick your size, pick their size. Every set page has two size menus, and the crew is a unisex classic fit that runs true to size, so each of you just picks your usual. The sizes run 3XS to 3XL and every combination costs the same $279. Both sweaters ship together.
One date matters: knits close November 15 for Christmas delivery, every destination, because each sweater is made when you order it. The full cut-off list is here.
The five patterns, ranked by vibe

The whole sweater is pattern, edge to edge: Shetland OXO borders and peeries in cream, soil brown, madder red and old gold. The pair of you reads as one continuous piece of knitting, which is either romantic or unsettling depending on the relative.

The Norwegian eight-point star in black, white and festive red. The crispest of the five patterns, and the one that photographs best against snow, trees, and relatives in lesser sweaters.

Trees, snowflakes, hearts, stars and stripes of gold, every classic band in one sweater. The maximalist pick for couples who commit to the theme completely.

A deep Icelandic-style yoke over a calm lice-stitch body in natural undyed shades. The quiet, expensive-looking one. If your couples aesthetic is neutral tones and candlelight, this is yours.

Black, white, grey and one deliberate line of red, the Norwegian lusekofte. For couples who want to match without anyone using the word cute.
Add the dog, complete the set
Every one of these patterns also exists as a human + dog matching set ($199) and as a standalone knitted pet sweater ($75). So the full family portrait is available: two humans in matching crews, one dog in the same pattern, everyone judging the camera equally.
Why knitted beats printed for couples
A printed matching set is a joke that lasts one party. A knitted matching set is knitwear. The pattern is in the fabric, not on it, so it does not crack, fade or peel, and you will both still be wearing these in five years. Splitting the difference: buy the knits for each other, and if you want a loud printed option for the office party, our all-over-print character sweatshirts are $79.99 and considerably weirder.
FAQ
Do both sweaters have to be the same size?
No. Each set has two independent size menus, 3XS to 3XL each, all 81 combinations are the same price.
Are these unisex?
Yes. The crew is a unisex classic fit and runs true to size. The two of you pick your usual sizes and the pattern does the matching.
Can we mix two different patterns?
The sets are one pattern in two sizes, that is the point of matching. If you want different patterns, buy two single crews, it costs $19 more.
When do we need to order for Christmas?
By November 15, any destination. Each sweater is knitted to order and needs about two weeks on the needles.
The verdict
Couples matching sweaters do not have to be a costume. Two real knitted crews in the same traditional pattern is $279, saves $19 over buying them separately, and produces the one holiday photo everyone keeps. Pick the pattern that sounds like the two of you and order before the needles book out.
